Prior to the fall 2014 premiere of American Horror Story’s fourth season — subtitled Freak Show — Oscar and Emmy winner Jessica Lange made it known that she would not be coming back for season 5. Lange had made an impressive shift to television with her memorable supporting performance in AHS’ debut season, and had gone on to play starring roles in the following three installments. At the time, many fans were upset about her departure, and the skepticism increased following the announcement of pop superstar Lady Gaga as the series’ new female lead. Still, the show must go on, and the Gaga-lead AHS: Hotel season ended up getting a positive enough reception that the singer-turned-actress has been invited back for season 6 of the series.
